
Meet Randy
Randy Rives is a former member of the Ector County Independent School District Board of Trustees. During his time on the board, he served as president for three years. He also served as the representative for Region 18 on the Texas Association of School Boards Legislative Advisory Council
Randy is a conservative Republican and is involved in many activities in his community. He is a member of the Ector County Republican Men’s Club. He has served as vice president in charge of membership and later as president of the Ector County Republican Men’s Club. In the past, Randy served on the Rules Committee for the Republican Party of Texas State Convention. For the 2010 State Republican Convention, he served on the Platform Committee.
He is a member and past president of the Permian Basin Mission Board in Odessa. He has served as a member of Opportunity Odessa Partnership and the Mayor’s Drug and Crime Commission. Randy is an active member of the First Baptist Church in Odessa. He is director of his Sunday School class and a member of the Finance Committee. He is an usher and is a former chairman of the Usher Committee at First Baptist Church.
Randy graduated from McCamey High School and attended San Angelo State where he majored in Business Administration. He was licensed as a Texas real estate agent and used this background in operating his own rental property in the past.
Randy and his wife, Denise, have been married for 32 years. Denise has been in education for over 30 years. She is a graduate of Texas Tech University and has her Master of Arts in Education from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB). She also received her Counselor, Mid-management, and Superintendent Certification from UTPB. Denise has worked in the education field as a teacher, counselor, and assistant principal. She currently is employed by Region 18 Education Service Center where she works with school districts in the area of Leadership, and Curriculum and Instruction.
Randy and Denise have two children. One daughter, Jennifer, is a full-time mother and homemaker. She is married to Robert Bremerman who works for Lufkin Industries in Odessa. Jennifer and Rob have two sons, Kaden and Kohl. Randy and Denise also have one son, Brandon, who is married to Jennifer Klam Rives. They have two children, Hunter and Riley. Brandon, a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University, is employed as a sales representative for Nalco Chemical in Odessa.
Randy currently works for OXY Permian in the Midland Office as an Operation Team Leader over Electrical and Automation for South Permian. Before this role with OXY, Randy worked as the Operation Team Leader for the North Cowden, Goldsmith, and Midland Farms field operations. Prior to that, the company was named Altura Energy from March 1997 to May 2000 where Randy served as Team Leader for the South Cowden Operations Center. Randy started with the company when it was Amoco Production Company and worked under that corporation from August 1976 to May 1997. During that period, he was a Field Foreman over electrical and automation and later, Team Leader for the South Cowden Operations Center.
In 2010, even after he no longer served in any elected capacity, Randy received international media coverage for his efforts to work with the Texas State Board of Education to pass a resolution preventing Anti-Christian/Pro-Islamic bias in public school textbooks. These efforts began in June, 2010 in his presentation before the board and the measure was passed in September, 2010.
